Los Independent Spirit Awards son los premios anuales al cine independiente que otorga la Film Independent, una organización sin ánimo de lucro dedicada a la promoción mismo. La ceremonia de entrega tiene lugar en la playa de Santa Mónica, y tradicionalmente se celebra la víspera de los Oscar, por lo que este año la fecha está fijada para el 27 de febrero de 2016.

Los nominados de la que será su 31ª edición se dieron a conocer ayer, dejando a Carol como principal candidata, con 6 opciones de premio. A la cinta de Todd Haynes la siguen Spotlight y Beasts of No Nation, con 5 cada una, y Tangerine y Anomalisa, ambas con 4.

Carol, de Todd Haynes, encabeza las nominaciones.

Entre las sorpresas están las ausencias de Room en las categorías de Película y Dirección, la de Lily Tomlin en Actriz Protagonista por Grandma, la irrupción de It Follows, y la nominación de Jennifer Jason Leigh por su trabajo de doblaje en la película de animación Anomalisa.
