Los BAFTA, son los premios que concede la British Academy of Film and Television Arts -la Academia Británica de las Artes Cinematográficas y de la Televisión-, y están abiertos a producciones de cualquier nacionalidad. Son el equivalente a los Oscar en Estados Unidos.

The Shape of Water encabeza las nominaciones de la 71ª edición de los premios con doce candidaturas. La siguen Darkest Hour y Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri con nueve. Lady Bird y Get Out, han quedado fuera de mejor película, y Greta Gerwig y Jordan Peele fuera de mejor dirección -donde un año más no hay ninguna directora nominada-. Mientras que, Mudbound y The Post han sido totalmente ignorada. La gala de entrega será el 18 de febrero en el Royal Albert House de Londres.
