The Shape of Water recogió el testigo de La La Land anoche y venció en la 23ª edición de los Critics’ Choice Awards con un total de cuatro premios -cuatro menos de los conseguidos por la película de Damien Chazelle el año pasado-, entre los que se encuentran mejor película y mejor director.

A un premio de la película de Guillermo del Toro se quedó Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, mientras que Lady Bird y The Post se fueron de vacío. Gary Oldman, Frances McDormand, Sam Rockwell y Allison Janney se hicieron con las categorías interpretativas principales, y Brooklyn Prince fue premiada como mejor actriz joven. El mejor guión original fue para Jordan Peele (Get Out), y el adaptado para James Ivory (Call Me by Your Name).
